You're headed to a baby Girl shower! All the cuteness of little girls lends excitement to how much fun this journey for the new mom will be. But what's a good gift for a baby shower? We've got some great suggestions to consider in thinking about what season she'll be born and think these are some of the best baby gifts for girls this year.
- Winter Baby Girl (Dec-Feb)
Buying for Now- Fleece, flannel, knit and long sleeves are in order to keep this princess warm the first few months and even into spring. This would apply to clothing, crib sheets, crib blankets, receiving blankets, and nursing covers. If you live in a very cold place, an infant car seat cover would be a great gift as well as portable bottle warmers. Cute dresses are always fun to buy, just make sure they are weather appropriate with long sleeves and even tights.
Buying for Later- The new baby will be growing so fast the first year, so she won't need all newborn sized clothes. Think ahead to what size she'll be in a few months and what the weather will be like in your area at that time. A winter baby, could be bought summer clothes, but they would likely have to be 6-9 month sized. A cute idea would be a bathing suit with sunglasses and a baby swim float. Of course, no one is using that in the middle of winter, but come summer, she'll be set!
- Spring Baby Girl (Mar-May)
Buying for Now- For many people, spring still sees a lingering of winter before they get those nice gardening and planting days. Even though we think of Easter outfits and all the cute Easter dresses, many places are still very cold. So lean toward the warmer outfits if buying newborn. This princess will likely be going on some walks since the weather is turning nicer. A nice stroller with a cover to keep the sun out of her eyes would be a great gift for mom and baby. Some moms prefer the sling wraps for walks as well as just for working around the house. Baby is always there right next to mom.
Buying for Later- A girl cannot have too many shoes! Newborns don't generally wear shoes, but as soon as they get a little older, shoes complete the outfit even if they're not walking yet. A fun assortment of shoes would be a great gift. Different sizes allow them to grow into them. On average, you can guesstimate shoe sizes as follows: 0-3 months (size 1),3-6 months (size 2), 6-9 months(size 3), 9-12 months (size 4). So thinking out the seasons, you could get her some sandals, dress shoes, tennis shoes, boots, etc... Baby Swings, exersaucers, and jumpers are also great look ahead gifts. By 6 months, she'll be interacting with the world around her and love these things.
- Summer Baby Girl (June-Aug)
Buying for Now- Baby, it's hot outside! Better keep that princess cool! Skip the warm fabrics and get breathable material. Light cotton, silk, or linen materials would provide the needed coolness. I would still consider buying a sweater to layer on top when they go into places like restaurants or malls. In the heat of summer with a newborn, it's highly important to keep them in the shade, so anything providing outdoor shade is a great gift. Popup baby canopies are great for when the family is outdoors A great diaper bag is always a nice have as well. Being summer, having one with some insulation to keep things warm or cold it helpful as well. Don't worry about them already having a bag. It's like a purse- It's always nice to have more than one. Different sizes for different places. It's great to have a larger one as your catch all but a smaller one to pack for quick trips. No need to haul the big one around everywhere.
Buying for Later- Books! What mom doesn't like the idea of starting their own child's library. Before they can even read, kids love flipping through books and looking at the pictures. The youngest type of reader would be the soft, chewable books, baby could put in their mouth without ruining it. Eventually, they'll be able to handle board books and enjoy them because they're short. And then, after that, they get to where they love to be read normal paper paged books with a small amount of sentences on each page. So, it doesn't matter which level you choose, at some point, the books will be put to use and you will have helped get that library started.
- Fall Baby Girl (Sept-Nov)
Buying for Now- With Halloween and Thanksgiving during this season, the temperatures have turned cooler once again. Holiday specific outfits are a great choice. A Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas outfit would be very cute! Is the family into football? Sports related outfits for their favorite team will be a big hit. A Themed package is another idea. For example, find an outfit with a cute animal on it and carry that theme with a couple smaller items to pair with it. Maybe it would a puppy outfit, with a stuffed puppy dog, and a board books about puppies. Or a ballerina outfit, with some ballerina type slippers, and a book about ballerinas.
Buying for Later-Right about the time this princess gets more active, it will be winter or early spring and sometimes still too cold to do much outside. A play mat gives them their own clean space to roam/roll around while inside. It keeps them from grabbing stuff up off the carpet and definitely a warmer and softer place than hardwood floors.
- Year Round "Can't go Wrong" Princess Gift Ideas
Buying for now- Eating and Sleeping are the newborn's daily tasks. So making these two go as smoothly as possible makes mom's life easier. Baby food makers such as the Baby Bullet are great for the mom that wants to control what ingredients are in her baby's food and/or is money conscious as well. Jarred baby food can get expensive so making your own baby food can keep costs down. Bottle Sterilizers are great for peace of mind that your bottles are getting cleaned properly for princess' next feeding. Hand cleaning the bottles and nipples can sometimes be challenging, but with this gadget they'll know for sure the bottles are sanitary.
Buying for later- Start their college fund! Get a large jar and Contribute some cash. This will inspire the parents to add to it over the years as well. Of course, have it clearly marked "_________College Fund" so it doesn't get raided for other things later on. You could even add to this a child growth chart so the parents can track their child's physical growth over the years. The growth chart is something that's so simple, yet a great gift. The ability to compare siblings over time is an amazing thing to see! Ride on toys is another year round option. It'll be close to a year before they will enjoy it, but buying one with a back handle will help them once they decide to start pulling themselves up and walking with assistance.
**Helpful Hint** It's always awesome to buy something for the brother or sister to be. The parents and the sibling appreciate that you thought about them too!
