Fun Gifts for 10 year old boys

These gifts for 10 year old boys are sure to please!

At 10, for a lot of boys, video games are high on the priority list but here’s a few options that are pretty universal boy pleasers:

Is it Gross or Disgusting? Does it blow up? Is it slightly dangerous? It’s a boy thing. They love to see the reaction on people’s face and I think they get some sort of inward satisfaction in being able to handle it. Slime, crazy lab experiments, fireworks, rockets, bean boozled game, ripley’s believe it or not books, catapults, slingshots, etc. all would make great gifts for 10 year old boys.

The need for speed- penny boards, go karts, hoverboards, zip line, R/C cars

Sports- got a favorite team? Caps and Team Tshirts. Drawstring bags from Nike, Adidas, & Under Armour are also a great gift that can be multipurpose.  Football? I cannot tell you how many different kinds of footballs I’ve seen apart from the normal football. Soft nerf, aerodynamic spiral, and even light up ones. A simple gift like this is likely what the boys will be playing with even at the party.

Nerf- Give them guns and a large backyard and handful kids can have a blast with a Nerf war. Give them a few obstacles such as pallets or cardboard on stakes or tires or barrels and the Nerf war becomes all that more fun. Laser Tag guns are another fun option for this age.

Rising Thinker- Got someone who’d rather read a book than play outside?
1. Rocks and Minerals- Let them investigate further with the National Geographic Rocks and minerals book and then a rock and mineral set where they can test for hardness and magnetism. What about some geodes they can break open? or a rock tumbler to smooth those stones out.
2. Basics of Circuits- Snapcircuits have several great kits that will keep them occupied learning how circuits work and constructing various circuits to make their own radio , make a fan work, etc. What are closed and open circuits? Let them read, construct, and learn.
3. Microscope discovery- Get them a good microscope with some prepared as well as blank slides and let them discover the world around them.
4. Robotics- there are several options to choose from. To name a few: Sphero SPRK, Lego Mindstorms, Makebot mbot. If the time is taken, you’re kids can learn the basics of coding and get their bots to do all kinds of cool things.

    Hi Jen,
Great article, I really liked the reading!
I was just looking for a gift to offer to my sister son. He is almost ten years old in a month. I am sure he will fall in love with a microscope, he dreams about this for so long. Each time I see him, he speaks about how happy he would be if he had a microscope to see microbes:)
Just a question, please. How long will it take for the shipping?
    Thank you in advance!

These ship from Amazon.com, so shipping is usually within 3-5 days and even faster if you have Amazon Prime.

Perfect! My son has been invited to a 9 year old boys birthday party next week. Lots of the items you mentioned on this page are perfect for any boy aged 8-10. There is definitely some great things here to help me out. You mentioned remote control cars, but I was just wondering though if it is too early to give “drones” as a present yet? What do you think?

They would probably love the idea of getting a drone. The Syma X5C quadcopter has great reviews for being a fairly cheap drone. Practically speaking, they might get the most out of it being at least 11-12 years old. It takes a little skill and patience. Too young and they will just get frustrated.

  4. What is a penny board?!?

I think often times I buy gifts for children imagining how playing is going to go and it never happens how I imagine!
I love the idea of buying nerf guns and setting up a whole obstacle course. Even I could jump in and have fun!!

A penny board is a small skateboard. Type in “Penny Complete Skateboard” into Amazon.com. Make sure you buy the real thing by the Penny Skateboard company and not a knockoff! Try this link.
